The Cattery Simãozinho consists of a covered space and an open area. The covered space surrounds the Shelter, with a sleeping area composed of several shelves covered with beds and snuggles where the animals lie down, the toilet area for the animals' hygiene, and some cabinets that serve as food and medicine storage. The open area is an open-air space filled with a variety of little houses, scratchers, and toys for the animals. There are about 50 cats.
These animals came from several colonies of stray cats in Guimarães and were collected from the cattery due to being abandoned.
The activities with the students include interaction with the animals and their treatment. Students go to the Cattery always in groups and are accompanied by an adult. There they can contribute to their treatment, by helping with feeding and medication or just playing with the animals. The sponsorship of animals can be done by class or individually, the first option being the best since the number of animals is limited. The adoption of animals is also possible.
