Resistor values are typically expressed in ohms (Ω), kilohms (kΩ), or megaohms (MΩ). The value of a resistor determines how much current will flow through it, and is determined by the resistive material used and the physical dimensions of the resistor. The value of a resistor is indicated by the color bands on the body of the resistor, which follow a standardized color code. For example, a resistor with brown-black-red-gold color bands has a value of 1,000 ohms (brown = 1, black = 0, red = 2 zeros, gold = 5% tolerance).
