Characteristics
A formal network can be presented in three forms: the chain, the wheel and the entire channel.
The chain rigidly follows the formal chain of command. It is used if the accuracy of the data is most important.
The wheel is supported by a leader to act as a central conduit for all group communications, facilitates the emergence of a leader, is fast and highly accurate
The entire channel network allows all group members to actively communicate with each other and is best suited if higher satisfaction is sought, its accuracy is moderate, and leaders are not likely to emerge.
1: It is one that occurs formally following rules imposed by a group.
2: It is the communication where the message originates from a member of a certain hierarchical level and is addressed to a member of a higher hierarchical level, of a lower level, or of the same level; following channels formally established by the company.
3: This communication usually uses means such as murals, intercoms, telephones, the Internet, circulars, memoranda, letters, publications, reports, reports, meetings, talks, events, etc.
4: The adequate flow of communication is the one that it offers.
5: communication sources capable of collecting and transmitting the communication that is needed at all times
Gossip
Single Strand: Each person communicates with the next in a single sequence.
Cluster: In cluster networks a person will receive information and choose to pass it on to their cluster network or keep the information to themselves. Each individual will pass on the information to the next cluster network.
Probability Chain: Each individual randomly tells another individual the same piece of information.
1.- It is the communication that moves freely within the organization and is not bound by pre-defined channels and communication routes.
2.- Informal communication is far more relational than formal communication, because it's by nature, a very natural form of communication as people interacts with each other freely and can talk about a diverse range of topics.
3.- it moves a lot faster and does not have a paper trail.
4.- Generally, begins with employees through social relations.
5.- Can turn to formal communication if they are added in to the formal communication information.
6.- Helps to build more productive and healthy relationships in the workforce.
Formal communication because it is official is more reliable, while informal communication has less credibility and no support.
The company is the one that creates the channels of formal communication through the hierarchical levels and the established norms, on the other hand the informal communication is totally spontaneous on the part of all the members of the company without having to follow the official levels.
The design of formal communication is created by the company itself, while informal communication is improvised and occurs impulsively.
Information in formal communication must follow a chain of command, predefined channels and be kept secret, on the other hand, informal communication in any of its addresses, messages flow with total freedom.
Formal communication maintains a clear context of privacy, but informal communication does not have any kind of privacy barrier.
Documentary evidence of formal communication is always available, on the contrary, supporting documents in informal communications do not exist or are not available.
Before finishing the flow, formal communication must go through many processes, while the processes of informal communication are very few.
The main difference between formal and informal communication is that formal communication is always supported by predefined communication channels, while there are no established rules for informal communication.
