E-consent forms are typically presented to the participant on a computer or mobile device, and the participant can review and sign the form electronically by typing their name or using an electronic signature.

Step-by-step procedure
Healthcare does the diagnosis asking a few questions on the occurences, frequency, previous medical history, etc specific to the problem/discomfort faced by the patient
Healthcare provider explains the medical treatment and its potential risks, benefits, and alternatives to the patient
Patient observes a discomfort & approaches a reputed/trusted/well-known clinic/hospital/healthcare institute
The healthcare provider also informs the patient that an e-consent form will be used to obtain their consent for the treatment
The patient provides their email address or phone number to the healthcare provider
The healthcare provider sends an email or SMS message to the patient containing a link to the e-consent form
Healthcare provider sends e-consent form link to patient via email or SMS to support remote approval as well
Patient clicks on the link and reviews the form
Patient provides his/her consent to the treatment by signing the e-consent form electronically which may have an expiry date if the eConsent form contents are updated
The e-consent form is automatically saved in the patient's electronic health record (EHR) & EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
The EHR or the EMR details is very crucial, confidential & needs to adhere the HIPAA-compliancy & regulatory
The healthcare provider receives a notification that the patient has signed the e-consent form or denied the same
Healthcare provider incase notified about approval and proceeds with the treatment else suggested an alternate treatment + eConsent for the same or the patient can exit the consultation

PHYSICIAN – Can assign a consent file to a patient.
PATIENT – Can review and sign consent files.
ADMIN – can upload PDF consent files and associate meta data to the files such as language, country, status
