Formation of Metamorphic Rocks, Regional;, Dynamic - Coggle Diagram
-
Regional;
Occurs over large areas of rock, thousands of square kilometres of rock are metamorphosed.
Plate movement applies pressure to the rock, deforming then, forcing them deep into the earths crust, to be heated (over 1000 degrees).
-
Northern Ireland was majorly effected by 'Regional Metamorphism', during the 'Caledioan' fold period.
E.G~ Gnneiss, formed from Granite, found in the 'Belmullet Peninsula', County Mayo.
Dynamic
Rocks are metamorphosed by great pressure, found on fault lines.
Rock on the fault line is grounded up into fine, sticky powder called 'fault gauge'.
This pressure turns rock much harder, also causes the binding & foliation of rock minerals.
E.G~ Slate formed from shale, found on the Valentina island, County Kerry.
