He was heavily involved in museums. Morgan was one of the founding members of the American Museum of Natural History and a lead donor. In 1871, he was a lead patron for the Metropoltian Museum of Art. Later he was the president. Lastly, in 1889, he donated $100,000 to Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. In addition to donating money to museums, Morgan aided the US government during the Panics of 1873, 1895, and 1907. Although he's most remembered for establishing the successful J.P. Morgan & Co.
