Evolution
Variation
Environmental variation is what effects you depending on where you live or what you do. So you could be overweight and that would be environmental not genetic.
Genetic variation is the stuff that comes from your ancestors. That cannot be decided by where you live or what you enjoy.

Fossils
Fossils are the preserved remains of a living organism or a trace of one. They are not the actual organism but they are rocks.
Fossils can only be created in certain conditions and certain ways. First they must die and then their flesh decomposes. If the conditions are correct they will get covered up in dirt and the bones will also decompose. This will leave a gap for minerals to create stone. That is called permineralization. Then years later they might be dug up.
There are 2 types of fossil. A whole-body and a trace. A trace fossil is only like a footprint whereas a whole-body fossil is well, a whole body.
Theories of Evolution
One of the theories of evolution isn't really evolution. It is the creation theory. This theory is the thought that God made the earth in 7 days and made humans out of clay. This is what Christians believe in. This is what people thought before Charles Darwin came along.
The final theory was made by Jean Baptiste Lamarck. His theory was that things constantly changed until they got to perfection. He also believed that a species could not go extinct, but instead they evolved into other species.
The second theory was made by Charles Darwin. He came up with the theory of Natural Selection. Tis is the theory tht species pass on their good genes to their offspring so that they can survive and can be better adapted to their environment.

Extinction
Extinction is the process of a species no longer existing. All of the species die out and cannot be brought back.
Some examples of extinct animals include: Dinosaurs, Dodos, Tasmanian Tigers, Giant Sloths and Saber-Toothed Tigers.
