Game mechanics
General mechanics
Changes in environment
Paths open and are blocked, new layouts are made both in the actual map, background, obstacles, etc. These changes are driven by the story.
Player character
Player can choose between Atera or Rostrup, perhaps both
Alternatively, these options can be unlocked after completing the game or specific pathways
Atera
Fast, strong relative to size, agile, many different moves and techniques
Rostrup
Tall, can craft things, high carrying capacity, can use tools
Battle and movement
Using
-
Atera
-
Tail whip
Atera can knock and attack by swinging his tail with normal body momentum, if the force and hit is strong enough and the hit is right
This can lead to interesting, fluid battle choreography where the player focuses on both front and behind at once
If it gets too passive, it could work only if Atera turns around mid-air, hitting with his tail in aerial forward momentum
During the game, he covers his tail with radioactive (?) microorganisms that gives him a poison sting, like a scorpion
Other

-
Possibility to go through entire game without any fighting (except from boss battles, where they can be much easier in this case)

Environment
Using
Geyser
Pushes the player high up into the air, depending on geyser size
-
Spontaneous, but with a pre-warning

Other
-

-
Trifid
A tentacle flower that gives a good whip, and potentially causes temporary blindness
Kraken lubber
A viscous, thin-floating, blubbery goop that lives on the water bottom. It covers a rather big surface, like slime.
It can eject, move, and stretch itself as it wishes, a bit like a colony of mucus fungus. It might hit or grab the player with a tentacle of goop, for example.
