-
Two plates collide, tension builds, lighter plate is forced to buckle upwards, forming a fold mountain.
E.G: The Alps, Switzerland, are Alpine fold period.
Earthquakes
3 Types of Waves
-P Waves~ Arrive first (fast), back & forth.
-S Waves~ Secondary wave (slower 8km/s), back & forth, perpendicular to wave direction.
-Surface Waves~ Slow, up & down, side to side.
-
Two tectonic plates get stuck sliding past each other, and tension builds.
The tension builds to the point where it is too much, the plates slip causing an earthquake.
Shockwaves are sent from the focus pf the earthquake, the epicentre is damaged the most by these seismic waves.
