Way Off Base, or a Neutralizer?
- Add a one dropper of vinegar to a test tube.
- Add red cabbage juice to determine the pH level.
- Add one dropper of the “antacid juice” (water + baking soda) to a different test tube.
- Add red cabbage juice to determine the new pH level.
- Now, combine the two test tubes together.
Part C: Magic Writing
- Dip a Q-tip into the phenolphthalein (Phenolphthalein is a base indicator. It turns pink in the presence of a base. Use the wet swab to write a message on a white sheet of paper.
- Spray the message using the bottle labeled “Ammonia” or you could use “Brasso”.
- Spray the message using the bottle labeled “Vinegar”.
