SOM RONG PAGODA
HISTORY
Som Rong Pagoda in Soc Trang was built more than 600 years ago.
The name is Som Rong because in the temple grounds there are many Som Rong trees that grow and proliferate by themselves.
The demand was increasing, but the temple area was too small to meet it, so in 1725, the pagoda was newly built at the present location.
Although it has a history of more than 600 years, the new main hall was completed in 2000.
TIPS FOR VISITING
Do not arbitrarily touch or take any objects.
Do not step on trees, flowers, tables and chairs in the temple, dispose of garbage in the right place.
Do not take pictures. If you want to film or take pictures, you must ask for permission.
When coming here, you should not dress too colorful or offensive.
ARCHITECT
Presbytery
The entire main hall is supported by 6 large pillars and the roof is built according to a very special structure.
On both sides of the entrance to the main hall, there is a unicorn statue with a fierce face, creating a sense of majesty and solemnity.
The main hall of the temple was inaugurated in 2000 with a large and monumental scale.
Visiting the main hall, you can understand more about the life of Buddha through the large mural paintings painted on the wall.
Stupa
The stupa in the campus is about 100m2 wide, 11m wide and 25m high.
The stupa has 4 paths representing "Compassion - Compassion - Joy - Equanimity".
This stupa was built by Venerable Ly Minh Duc, on March 7, 2012 officially completed.
The two entrances to the tower are decorated with the image of the snake god Naga.
Sightseeing Gate Area
The gate is also decorated with delicately carved reliefs, simulating the symbolic mascots of Khmer culture such as: Naga snake, Krud bird god, ....
The path leading from the gate to the inside of the temple is covered with hundreds of years old trees.
The temple gate is built in the traditional three-door style, above there are 5 towers representing Tu Di mountain.
Buddha statue in nirvana
The statue was inaugurated in 2013 with a length of 52 meters, a height of 12 meters and located 23 meters above the ground.
To complete this statue, dozens of artisans had to work continuously for 18 months.
The largest outdoor statue of Buddha entering nirvana in Vietnam.
The statue is considered a special highlight, making the temple attractive.
