Charlies dickens shows change through the character Ebenezer scrooge. He uses his actions to show the difference between how he thinks and feels between the start and end of the play. At the start of the play scrooge repeats the word "humbug" which means deceptive or false talk. He often uses this noun after someone mentions a merry Christmas to him, therefore showing that at the start of the play he isn't the most pleasant fellow.
