He also was elected to the Vancouver History Society's board of directors. He served as the organization's vice-president for a number of years and served as its programming officer, inviting speakers to monthly meetings held at the Museum of Vancouver that were accessible to the public.
In 2003, he served as the organization's first director, and the following year, it officially became a registered society. Via his blog, Ask Larry, and participation in the UBC Asian Canadian Tales, he remains involved in the community.
