Special education is the most commonly used treatment for learning disabilities. A formal assessment may be performed by specially trained teachers to determine the child's academic and intellectual potential. They will also take into account academic performance.
Who can have learning disabilities?
Both male and female can have learning disabilities.

: It seems that boys are diagnosed with
LD more often than girls. And not by just a little bit. Around two-thirds of kids with learning disabilities are boys. And boys are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD.

When can learning disabilities occur?
Learning disabilities usually happen at very young ages. Unfortunately, they are not noticed till they reach school ages. Learning disabilities can be lifelong conditions. In some people, several overlapping learning disabilities may happen.
Adults may also have learning disabilities. Adults with LD may have been born with their disability, or they may have acquired it later in life.
