The town of Cranford is bisected by the Garden State Parkway (GSP), a well-used thoroughfare of travel by criminal gangs attempting to escape New York City and Newark, NJ in stolen vehicles. These vehicles often attempt to evade NJSP by exiting the GSP and escaping into small, bedroom communities like Cranford. Conversely, Cranford PD (CPD) has no automated method to capture license plates that have been associated with stolen vehicles identified by the NCIC or NJSP hotlist databases. CPD has been using wildlife cameras to obtain images and match stolen vehicle license plates, which is a time-consuming and manual process. Therefore, CPD is seeking an effective alternative their Detectives can use to more efficiently identify, investigate and prosecute stolen vehicle offenses, through the use of ALPR.
