The organic analogy - Compares society to the organs in a human body. If one organ fails then everything stops running smoothly which is the same for society if something goes wrong society would collapse and fall into chaos.

Value consensus - When everyone agrees on the norms and values and we are all properly socialised into them the value consensus is achieved.

Norms - An expected behaviour, something that is socially acceptable.
Strain theory

Everyone has the same values, ie wanting the 'American Dream' (housewife, a suburban house with a white picket fence outside)
People aim for success in society but don't always achieve them. One of 5 strategies, some of who result in crime:
- Conformists - Lives according to society's aims, norms and values in order to achieve goals.
- Innovators - Accepts society's aims, norms, and values but has no legitimate way of attaining success so develops illegitimate means of achieving the goals.
