A FRAGILE PEACE
-
Belle Èpoque
Was a period of prosperity and optimism but also of great tension in international relations because of territorial expansionism
-
Two sources
Between 1905 and 1911, France and Germany were on the brink of war over control of Morocco
Between 1912 and 1913, two Balkan wars broke out
In the first, an alliance of Balkan countries declared war on the Ottoman Empire
In the second, the former allies fought each other. Serbia benefited from this war
BISMARCKIAN SYSTEM
Three stages
First system; League of Three Emperors, an alliance between Austro-Hungarian, German and Russian empires
-
Third system; German chancellor reinforced the Triple Alliance and signed the Reinsurance Treaty with Russian tsar
