Hue Citadel was surveyed by King Gia Long in 1803, started construction in 1805 and completed in 1832.
Currently, Hue Citadel is one of the relics belonging to the Complex of Hue Monuments Complex recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.
ARCHITECT
The castle structure was built in the Vauban style of the West with 24 fortresses protruding outwards.
The wall is covered with earth to build a bundle of bricks inside and outside with an average thickness of 21.5m.
There are 10 city gates in all; the front (south direction) has 4 ports, the other 3 sides have 2 ports each.

Hue Imperial Citadel

This is the residence of the King and the Royal Family, as well as the working place of the court.
In addition, Hue Imperial Citadel is also a place to worship ancestors and kings of the Nguyen Dynasty.

However, to complete the entire palace system with more than 100 works, it was not until the reign of King Minh Mang in 1833 to be completed.
Forbidden City
Is the innermost citadel, located in the Imperial Citadel.
The Forbidden City was originally called Cung Thanh and was built in the second Gia Long year (1803). In the 2nd year of Minh Mang (1821), the name was changed to Forbidden City.

The east side has two gates, Hung Khanh and Dong An.

Inside the citadel includes dozens of architectural works with different large and small scales, divided into many areas.
Hue Citadel
In general, although each palace has different large and small scale, in general, they are all built according to the architecture of the period.

The house is built on a high stone foundation. The floor is tiled with green or yellow glazed tiles of Bat Trang.
The roof is made of glazed tubular tiles, commonly known as Hoang Lui Ly or Thanh Lui Ly tiles. The pillars are mainly painted with long-veined patterns.
All of them adhere to the style of "one poem and one painting", decorating the room with poems written in Chinese characters.
HOW TO GET THERE
Starting from Hue city, you can call a motorbike to cross Phu Xuan bridge and then go through Cua Ban and go to Cua Ban to reach Hue Citadel.
For cars, you need to go west to Hanoi and then turn to the right and also cross Phu Xuan bridge and turn into compartment gate is the shortest way, it only takes about 5 minutes.
Note: it is recommended to rent a car before coming to be able to pick up the car and visit Hue Citadel!
