Community Asset Map: City of Port Coquitlam
Information regarding asset map
Boundaries: We are using the boundaries of the City of Port Coquitlam as defined in Google Maps. We also used Google Maps to identify the listed structures, services, and programs available in Port Coquitlam and nearby cities.
We used the Community Asset Model, as described by Yiu (2020) as the basis of our focus. We also used the A Healthy City for All strategy by the City of Vancouver (City of Vancouver, n.d.; City of Vancouver, 2023) as reference for specific parts of infrastructure, programs, and services the include as community assets.
As mentioned in our readings by Russell et al. (2017), the Asset Based Community Model is a way for community advocates, stakeholders, and health care professionals to identify what is already in place and how we can use these existing assets to shift more power into the community, focusing on what is available and how we can use these resources to address needs that are not being filled (Russell et al., 2017).
