QUOC TU GIAM TEMPLE IN HA NOI
HISTORY
The Temple of Literature was built under the reign of King Ly Thanh Tong (August 1070).
Both as a place to worship Confucian saints and as a royal school for the Emperor.
Crown Prince Ly Can Duc, or King Ly Nhan Tong, was the first student of this school.
After ascending the throne, King Ly Nhan Tong took the position of Quoc Tu Giam right next to the Temple of Literature.
Chu Van An was invited to take the position of Quoc Tu Giam privately, corresponding to the position of principal today.
ARCHITECT
The first area
Starting with the main gate of Van Mieu Mon, going to Dai Trung Mon gate, two sides have small doors are Thanh Duc Mon and Dat Tai Mon.
The second area
The architecture consists of 4 square brick columns (85 cm x 85 cm) below supporting the upper attic, the wooden structure is very beautiful.
The upper floor has 4 round doors, railings and a simple, rustic wooden roof support.
The roof is tiled with two layers to form a work of 8 roofs, roof ledge, and flat roof surface.
The attic is a square floor with eight roofs, four sides of the attic are round windows shaped like rays of sunlight.
The image of Khue Van Cac bringing all the stars in the sky to earth and here is represented by the square of Thien Quang well.
The gate of the Temple of Literature was built in the style of Tam Quan, on which there are 3 words "Temple of Literature" in ancient Chinese characters.
In the Temple of Literature, it is divided into 5 distinct areas, each area has a separating wall and a connecting gate
The third area
Thien Quang Tinh lake (meaning sun well)
Each stele is made of stone, engraved with the names of the poinsettias, Ban Longan, Tham Hoa, Hoang Giap, and Dr.
Beer placed on the back of a turtle.
The fourth area
The central area and the main architecture of the Temple of Literature, consisting of two large works arranged in parallel and in succession.
The outside building is Bai Duong, the inner building is the Upper Palace.
The fifth area
Khai Thanh Temple, worshiping Confucius' parents, contacting the 4th area through Khai Thanh Gate.
HOW TO GET THERE
The relic complex is located in the middle of 4 main streets: Ton Duc Thang, Temple of Literature, Quoc Tu Giam and Nguyen Thai Hoc.
BUS
In Hanoi, there are many bus routes that stop near the Temple of Literature.
Depending on where you live, you can catch bus routes such as: number 02, 23,32, 38, 41.
Double decker bus or tour bike
Double-decker buses are a fairly new vehicle in Hanoi, suitable for tours of the Temple of Literature and many other places in the capital.
In addition, you can also choose an inner city tour by bicycle of travel agencies for a more enjoyable experience.
Types of personal vehicles
Visitors need to pay attention to the traffic signs, because the roads around the Temple of Literature are all one-way streets.
TIPS FOR VISITING QUOC TU GIAM TEMPLE
Choose neat and polite clothes, do not wear hats.
Do not smoke or bring inflammable and explosive materials into the monument's premises.
Only light 1 stick of incense when offering the ceremony and in the right place.
Maintain hygiene, environmental landscape, avoid making noise.
Do not engage in superstitious or illegal activities.
Do not infringe on artifacts, write graffiti on the Doctor's stele, turtle head and other exhibits.
It is recommended to combine visiting the Temple of Literature with nearby tourist attractions such as Hoa Lo Prison, Hanoi Railway Station, Quan Su Pagoda...
