Mary, Dickon, and Colin finds ways to sneak Colin in to the Secret Garden. Colin tells the staffs to not disrupt him when they go for their afternoon walks.

Setting
Misselthwaite Manor
Mary was initially rude, self-centered, yellow, and isolates herself from the lower class.
She met Martha and became an independent and adventurous girl. Through Martha, she met Dickon and Susan. Both of the characters boosted Mary's confidence and positive personality. Throughout the book, she became nicer and helped Colin heal his inner conflict
Developed Mary's behaviour, appearance, and personality
Secret Garden
Impacted Colin's behaviour and improved his health. Colin became curios and hopeful after hearing about the garden. He became healthier after countless visits to the garden.
Became a vessel for Mary, Dickon, and Colin to fully express themselves without scrutiny and judgement
Character Development
Colin
Colin heals from his inner conflict
Became hopeful for his life and recovery after Mary pointed out that he doesn't have a hunchback and that he is perfectly straight.
Colin's line: "Do you think I'll be able to live?"
The nurse is shocked by the lack of hunchback on Colin and Colin decides to recover by going out to the secret garden with Dickon and Mary.
Personality:
very stubborn, loves to throw tantrums, bosses his way around because of his social standing.
Colin starts to dream to be a scientist as well as show his dad that he is healthy.
"When I grow up I am going to make great scientific discoveries and I am going to begin now with this experiment." (Chapter 23 pg 298)
Mr. Craven enters the secret garden and sees that Colin can walk. Both the son and father walk out of the secret garden, shocking everyone in the manor.
Every encounter in the secret garden, Colin heals. Colin becomes more hopeful in his healing journey and get extra excited
"Just this minute," said Colin, ' all at once I remembered it myself when I looked at my hand digging with the trowel and I had to stand up on my feet to see if it was real. And it is real ! I'm well I'm well" (pg. 342)
Archibald Craven
Personality:
He suffers from depression after his wife died. He refuses to look at Colin and the secret garden because he misses his wife. He often leaves the Manor and goes for his vacation to escape reality
Development:
However, on his trip to the mountain, he receives a letter from Susan to come back to the Manor. He also gets a dream of Lily calling him to the Secret Garden. During his hike, he finally realizes that he hasn't been the best father figure to Colin. He changes himself by deciding to go back make things right with Colin. Upon entering the secret garden, he sees Colin walking for the first time as well as a renovated version of the dead garden.
"He had not meant to be a bad father, but he had not felt like a father at all. He had supplied doctors and nurses and luxuries, but he had shrunk from the mere thought of the boy and had buried himself in his own" (pg. 363)
" 'Could it be possible that she sees that I may be able to do him good and control him?' he thought. 'I will go and see her on my way to Misselthwaite.' " (pg.365)
