A Christmas Carol
Victorian Society 19th century-The social classes of this era included the Upper class, Middle class, and lower class. Instead, they were landowners and hired lower class workers to work for them, or made investments to create a profit.
The poor laws-The new Poor Law ensured that the poor were housed in workhouses, clothed and fed. Children who entered the workhouse would receive some schooling. In return for this care, all workhouse paupers would have to work for several hours each day.
Why did Dickens write A Christmas Carol?-It was a visit to the Field Lane ragged school in the Saffron Hill district of London that led Dickens to write A Christmas Carol in 1843.
