Alliteration
Inject mood or emotion into a piece of writing.
Example:The beautiful bouquet blossomed in the bright sun.
Caesura
Used subtly to provide a place to take a breath between phrases.

Enjambment

Personification

Juxtaposition
Invite the reader to compare, contrast, and consider the relationship between those elements more closely.
Example:You can see the light of the stars at night only because of the darkness of space.
Imagery
Improve a reader's experience of the text by immersing them more deeply by appealing to their senses.
Example:The grass was green, and the flowers were red.
Oxymoron
Oxymorons make the reader think.
Example:Deafening silence.
Sibilance
Sibilance adds rhythm and musicality to a piece of text by suggesting which syllables a reader should emphasize.
Example:Sarah's silly sister swallowed her sweet.
