Evolution
Vocabulary
-
Variation: A difference in genes, traits, or behaviors among members of a population, which may result in differences in reproductive success.
-
-
Natural Selection: The process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
-
Antibiotic: A chemical substance that helps your body fight off an infection by killing harmful bacteria.

The Galapagos Island
-
Certain finches used their beaks to get certain types of seeds; big beaks meant they ate big seeds, and small beaks meant they ate small seeds.
The Galapagos finches got studied and people came up with the theory that each of their beaks are used for different purposes.
Bird beaks all depend on what type of bird they are and what type of environment they are living in.
Antibiotics / Resistance
-
-
This is not always the case, considering sometimes you have a sickness not caused by bacteria, therefore you do not need antibiotics since bacteria is killed using antibiotics.
When you get sick, you usually get prescribed with an antibiotic to get rid of the sickness. Antibiotics help to get rid of the bacteria inside of you.

Lamarck's theories
The only correct theory that Lamarck believed in was the fact that species can change over time, just not evolving how he imagines it.
-
Believed in "Acquired Traits" meaning offspring inherited traits their parents gained by adapting to their environments
Darwin's theories
All the survivors reproduced and had offspring, and offspring with bad traits died off as well.
If animals were born with traits that were not helpful where they were living, they either died or adapted to their environment.
Believed in "Natural Selection" or "Survival of the Fittest" meaning only organisms that are fit for their environment can survive.
Hiding in the Background
Some living organisms with camouflage are chameleons, zebras, and certain types of insects
Some animals simply are a similar color to their environment, a lot of the time brown or green, and do not have a pattern or shape on their body.
Camouflage is when animals blend in with their surrounding using colors, patterns, and shapes to make it seem like they are not really there as a trick to not get eaten by predators.
Fun Facts
If you have sickle cell disease, you are already immune to getting malaria.
Giraffes are an example of animals adapting to their environment also known as evolution. Their neck over time grew due to the giraffes with the smaller necks dying from lack of food and the giraffes with the longer necks having offspring with similar neck styles.
