Engaged readers
they read widely with different purposes;
they readfluently and use their cognitive capacity to focus on the meaning of what they read;
they are metacognitively aware as they use a variety of reading strategies;
they develop their comprehension by using what they read;
they are motivated readers.
Purposes of reading
We read for pleasure;
We read for information;
We read to learn something new.
Fluent Reading
"reading fluency is the ability to decode and to comperhend the text at the same time'
Automaticity- perform a task easily;
Accuracy- read correctly;
Reading Rate- read speed control;
Prosodic Structuring- intonation: stress, tone...,etc.
Metacognitive Aware of reading
Stratagies
preparing and planning for active learning;
deciding when to use specific strategies;
knowing how to monitor the use of strategies;
learning how to combine various strategies;
evalueting the effectivness of strategy use.
Reading Comperhansion
vocabulary knowledge;
grammar knowledge;
shoet-term memory;
infertial knowledge.
Motivation
Stratages refer to
instructional interventions applied by the teacher to elicit and stimulate student motivation
self-regulating strategies that are used purposefully by individual students to manage the level of their own motivation.
