Nature of Allah
- Tawhid --> The belief that Allah is unique and without any partner. To associate partners with Allah, including 'flase gods', is shirk, the worst sin in Islam. ("Worship God and shun false gods". Qur'an, Surah 16:35-36)
- Immanence and transcendence --> Muslims believe Allah is the creator of everything and that humans can observe and experience parts of his creation but can never fully understand it. they believe the same about Allah.
Immanence --> "We were never far from them" Qur'an, Surah 7:6-7 / "We are closer to him than his jugular vein" Qur'an, Surah 50:16
Transcendence --> "established Himself on the throne" Qur'an, Surah 7:54. This verse symbolises Allah's control of everything.
- Omnipotence --> Muslims believe Allah has the power to create everything from nothing and is the only authority in the universe. ("He has power over all things" Qur'an, Surah 2:107-109)
- Beneficence --> He loves his creation and his kindness has no limits. ("your Lord's bounty is not restricted" Qur'an, Surah 17:20)
- Mercy --> There are 114 chapters in the Qur'an and all of them (apart from 9) start with "In the name of God, the Lord of mercy, the Giver of Mercy". ("My mercy embraces all things" Qur'an, Surah 7:156)
- Fairness and justice, Adalat in Shi'a islam --> Allah treats people fairly according to how they have lived their life. teaches muslims that they are accountable for what they have and have not done. Allah expects people to show fairness in everything they do. ("if you judge between people, to do so with justice:" Qur'an, Surah 4:58)
