Ben Franklin- Franklin was known as one of the fathers of Individualism along with America as well.
George Washington-"It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company."(Washington).
Thomas Jefferson-"Every Difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names, brethren of the same principles."(Jefferson)
Ted Roosevelt- Strived to be an American Individual. Wrote about the "American Boy" and what it took to become what America should truly be about.
Charlotte Perkins- Searched for cures to help better the world and make diseases go away

Natural Rights were a freedom for everyone in America in 1776
Henry Thoreau-"Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also a prison."
Phillis Wheatley-Gained Freedom in 1773 and became the second woman poet.
Property, Life, and Liberty are the 3 Natural Rights
Christianity
John Winthrop- "...There is a time when a Christian must sell all and give to the poor, as they did in the Apostles' times." (Winthrop).
"City On a Hill" was created by Winthrop to provide a sort of safe place to represent Jesus.
Jonathan Edwards- Was a Preacher during the Great Awakening in 1730-1740.
Jazz age
F. Scott Fitzgerald- Used a lot
of Satire in his writings to show the stories and differences behind America.
Babbit- A book that showed the differences and different ways of America and how the new America was starting to become what it is today.
Frederick Douglas- "I now come to that part of my life during which I planned, and finally succeeded in making, my escape from slavery."(Douglas).
Slavery
Ralph Emerson-"I think we must get rid of slavery or we must get rid of freedom..."(Emerson).
Henry Longfellow-Told poems and demanded the abolishment of slavery through them.
Nat Turners Rebellion- A rebellion by slaves to try and get freedom.
American Change
Booker T. Washington- Was the creator of the "Cast your Bucket Down", which created a sense of hope of hope for people to change their fortune in the world. (Washington.)
Second Industrial Revolution- Created a huge change in how work was distributed in America and more big machines introduced to America.
W.E.B. Du Bois- Fought for the rights of the African American community and wanted to make America an equal place.
Washintgon Vs. Du Bois- Overall both fought for equality in America, but in different places and had slightly different views on how to go about it.
