Class Contribution Reflection
Gui de Campos Dutra
What ways of participating in the course have been most helpful for you?
Answering Questions
Helps me organize my thoughts better, I get a better grasp on the material if a response I give gets feedback
If the feedback counters my point, or I was incorrect, or what have you, knowing that and adding to my notes prevents any incorrect information from finding its way there
I stay focused when I am thinking about what I could say when discussion opens
Taking Notes
Keeps me organized
Helps me out for future assignments if I forget a specific detail
I can catch up on specific parts of the lecture that I may have missed or forgotten
How will you contribute during the rest of the semester?
I plan on making my upcoming notes legible, digestible, and informative when my week comes along
I will ensure my facilitation questions are thought provoking in order to maximize group discussion
I will also keep the conversation flowing between my group members and I by trying to follow up on their points and having a strong knowledge of the reading in question
I will keep responding to questions both by group members and during lecture
I will also try to ask more questions when I have any, instead of just waiting to see if others ask the same thing, which is something I do on occasion
Cutting off this habit will benefit me with my personal understanding of the class but also with my ability to inquire and reach out when uncertain on something
What are the specific ways in which you have contributed to learning?
Facilitated Discussions
I try to make my facilitation questions digestible and easy to bounce off of
If I noticed a lull in the discussion, I prompted my group further, either by sharing my thoughts or asking for theirs
When not leading, I try to give my thoughts on the reading frequently
I also try my best to follow up on what my group members are saying, such as on whether I agree or not
Sharing Notes
I sometimes tend to be a fast and loose note taker, using abbreviations and shorthand that I can recognize, but others may not
When sharing notes I write more methodically and digestibly, ensuring that others can understand what I have written down
