Types of injuries in athletics
Sprains
A sprain is a injuiry to the ligaments around the joints. Sprain occurs when the ligament is streched more then normal range and causes a torn ligament.
There are some specific symptoms of sprain like pain, swelling, bruising, and have difficulty moving around are some common symptoms for a sprain.
There are some common areas for sprains such as ankle, wrist and knee joints are the mostly likely to get sprained.
In the first aid you can follow the RICE rest the injured area for 15 - 20 minutes every few hours.
Cuts and wounds
Some common areas for cuts and wounds are fingers and arms but wonds can be anywhere on your body.
Cuts and wounds are the injuries that break open the skin or other body tissues.
Symptoms of cuts are wounds is bleeding and pain around the area.
In first aid, for wounds and cuts you should first apply direct pressure and then clean with Dettol and then apply a clean bandage.
Head Injury
Head injury is any trauma that is caused to the skull, brain, which can be affect the brain mildly or it can break te whole skull.
Symptoms of a head injury is headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, loss of consciousness, and difficulty with balance or coordination.
Areas where you can get a head injury is the skull or the brain.
Head injury can be treated by lying down with the head and shoulders slightly elevated. Don't move the person unless necessary. Avoid moving the person's neck. If the person is wearing a helmet, don't remove it
Splinting
Symptoms of splinting is increased pain, swelling, numbness, tingling, burning, or discoloration of the skin, or any signs of infection.
Splinting is Splinting is a process that consists of the application of a device (a splint) to stabilize an injured body part, like a bone or joint, to avoid additional injury and enable healing.
Splinting can happen anywhere in the body while doing athletics or sports.
Splinting can be treated by using an splint (newspaper, cardboard or any other hard stable object which can support the injury in terms of first aid.
Bruise
Some common symptoms of bruises are swelling, skin
discoloration (red to purple, brown, black, brown).
A bruise is a dis colored mark on the skin which is caused by breaking or damaged blood vessels under the skin.
Some common areas for bruises are legs, arms, shins, knees and elbows.
In first aid apply ice pack to the bruise for several days for 15-20 minutes and you will notice it healing slowly.
Strains
Strain is when a muscle pulled such as tendon is pulled more then the normal range.
Symptoms of a strain is pain, swelling, difficulty moving the affected area.
Common areas for strains is the ankle, arms and many more.
Strains can be treated by using the RICE method which can help relive the pain.
Bleeding
Bleeding is when the skin or tissues are open which causes the blood to come out known as bleeding.
Symptoms of bleeding is the blood coming out, pain, swelling.
Common areas foe bleeding are hands and knees.
Bleeding can be treated by applying direct pressure and then holding the cut or wound of a bit of a time then putting a bandage.
Swelling
Swelling is the enlargement of of a body part due to inflammation, injury or etc.
Swelling can be accompanied by pain, redness, and warmth in the affected area
Some common areas for swelling are legs, ankles, feet's, hands and arms.
In first aid avoid moving the swollen area and ice it 15-20 minutes several times a day to avoid inflammation and pain.
