The timbre of Nguyen is very suitable for playing the bass of an orchestra or harmonizing with other instruments, and it has a simple structure and is easy to modify. In various stages of history, including the Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and the People's Republic of China, Chinese musicians have gradually improved and upgraded the Nguyen, creating the modern Nguyen's characteristic timbre of being neutral, low and steady. Among them, the more special short-necked Ruan was developed into the Yueqin during the Qing Dynasty. Modern Ruanqin is classified into high-pitched Nguyen, small Nguyen, medium Nguyen, large Nguyen, bass Nguyen and pull Nguyen according to its different shapes. It is widely used in solo and ensemble, and occupies an important position in the plucked instruments of the Chinese orchestra.
