SDG 14: Protecting Marine Ecosystems
Related Social Issues
Overfishing (fish decline, ecosystem imbalance)
Coral Reef Destruction (climate change, ocean acidification)
Marine Pollution (plastic waste, oil spills, chemical emissions)
Sea Level Rise (glaciers melting, coastal erosion)
Causes and Impacts
Overfishing
Causes: Increased demand, illegal fishing, lack of regulation
Impacts: Decline in fish populations, collapse of marine ecosystems, damage to the fishing industry
Destruction of coral reefs
Causes: Global warming, ocean acidification, tourism
Impacts: Decreased marine habitats, damage to the fishing and tourism economy
Marine Pollution
Causes: Increased use of plastics, industrial waste spills, ship pollution
Impacts: suffocation and poisoning of marine life, disruption of food chains, human health risks
Sea Level Rise
Causes: Melting of glaciers, accelerating climate change
Impacts: Flooding of coastal cities, increase in climate refugees
Reflection
The reason why this issue is important and relevant today is because the oceans cover over 70% of the Earth and are an important natural environment and resource.
However, the oceans are increasingly polluted due to human activities, and this art project can visually express the severity of ocean pollution, shock people, and induce action to save the environment.
Solutions
Individuals: Reduce plastic use, eco-friendly consumption habits
Communities: Ocean clean-up activities, promoting sustainable fishing
Governments: Strengthening plastic regulations, oceans Expanding Protected Areas
