Vocabulary Instruction
Words that Matter
Tier 2 Words: academic words found in all subject areas. These words are necessary for comprehension and being able to answer questions in academic context. examples of these words- synthesize, summarize, and compare.
Tier 3 words" These are the words that are specific for each content area. They are needed to understand the topic in the subjects. An example is biosphere.
Key Concepts: These are the type of words that students need to know in order to understand the concepts being taught in class. Without these words students would not be able to have an understanding of the topic or lesson being taught.

A user friendly tool that allows educators to create a variety of activities for flashcard study for student use.

Blooket
Blooket can be used to create a question set that used vocab words and corresponding multiple choice questions. This can be used to make lessons more interactive and engaging.
Working with Colleagues
Identify terms with multiple meanings and connotations. Many terms have meanings and applications across various subjects.
Consider students’ background knowledge, current vocabulary, and needs. There will be students whos first language isn't english. Teachers need to be sure that their students are receiving the support they need in order to excel using vocabulary.
Focus on the terms that build a foundation for students knowledge. Focus on the words that builds background knowledge for future terms and concepts
