- - - - Definition: Proactive responses from community groups help to develop a deeper understanding between different socio-cultural groups and a spirit of mutual accommodation and trust
      - Example: Welcome In My Backyard(WIMBY). Youth-led group formed in April 2020 aiming to raise awareness about the lives of migrant workers promoting interactions between migrant workers and the local community. When migrant workers dorms were relocated to housing estates many Singaporeans were skeptical about this. So WIMBY encouraged Singaporeans to write notes to welcome migrant workers. The notes were even translated to the migrant's workers native language
    - - Definition: Insensitive comments and responses about a person's identity has implications, which can often lead to people reacting with anger, hurtful words or actions
      - Example: Social media amplifying these implications, further fueling sentiments of unhappiness and criticism
- - - - Responses of individuals
        
        Definition: Individuals can respond by contributing their time, effort and money to meet areas of need in society
        
        Example:Start ground-up initiatives and mobilise resources to distribute food to those in need
      - Responses of community groups
        
        Definition:Community groups can be in the form of both formal or informal groups providing support to disadvantage groups of people in society
        
        Example:Keeping Hope Alive(informal community group). Their target group was residents in one-or two-room rental flats who are in need and cleaned their homes, fixed and replaced home appliances, providing haircuts.
      - Definition:In a society with diverse socio-economic backgrounds, different people will have access to greater or lesser financial resources.
    - - Government-financed approach in Sweden
        
        Definition: Governments adopt different approaches to manage issues related to socio-economic diversity
        
        Example: Swedish governemnt provides substantial assistance and financial support, ensures that citizens of different soci-economic backgrounds have access to healthcare education, housing and employment, also ensures that the needs of the elderly, citizens with illness or disabilities, people with youg children, are all provided for.
      - Challenges faced by Sweden
        
        Example: Sweden is experience ageing population, where the percentage of people 65 years old and above is increasing.
      - Shared-responsibility approach in SIngapore
        
        Definition: SIngapore adopts the shared-responsibility approach to address issues caused by socio-economic diversity
        
        Example: Individual responsibility through own savings through CPF Medisave Account to pay for their own or their dependents' healthcare needs. Government assistance in the form of tiered subsidies to reduce medical costs and Medifund for lower income citizens unable to pay for their healthcare costs.e.g. tiered subsidies for hospitalization can go up to 80% subsidies for those in the lower income group. This helps to keep healthcare affordable and accessible to all.
      - Challenges faced by Singapore
        
        Example: Singapore is experiencing ageing population and percentage of seniors will more than double by 2030
- - - - Definition: The Singapore government responds to socio-cultural diversity by implementing integration policies
      - Example:Common experienes provide opportunities for immigrants and locals to interact with one another and promote social chesion. Two such examples include the Ethnic Integration Policy and National Service e.g. NS. NS brings people from diverse backgrounds to train and live together
    - - Definition:French citizens are expected to put aside their individual connections to race, ethnicity and religion in order to achieve harmony in society
      - Example:In 2004, France introduced a law that banned the wearing of visible religions attire and symbols in public schools
    - - Definition: Despite concerted efforts from the government, organisations and the community, some tensions still exist between locals and new immigrants
      - Example:With a growing population of immigrants, some Singaporeans also feel that there is a greater stress on public services, e.g. more crowded on MRT trains, and increase in prices due to competition for goods and services
    - - Definition: The French government responds to socio-cultural diversity by implementing assimilationist policies in areas such as edycation, employment and naturalisation to assimilate immigrants and their descends into French society
      - Example:In education, all children regardless of citizenship status, are required to attend school until 16 years old. Children of immigratnts attend adaptation classes to improve their French. No discussion of religion in school except for History, Philosophy and Art classes
