ENERGY DRINKS (MODULE 2)
An Overview of Digestion
-
Two types of Digestion
Chemical: breakdown of nutrients using enzymes into smaller units that can be absorbed into the circulatory system for distribution.
Mechanical: Process that increase the surface area of the food so chemical digestion of nutrients is more efficient
Digestive system assist all organs by supplying water and nutrients by interacting with the Circulatory System so cells can perform individual tasks.

What is an Enzyme?
metabolic catalysts, which means they make chemical reactions occur faster

Carbohydrates
The Carbohydrates
-
their polymers form long chains which can be easily broken down by the enzymes in our digestive system
-
-
-
Starch
energy polysaccharide found in plants; in roots, seeds and areas that plant cellular growth takes place
Glycogen
-
contains more branches because animals require more energy storage, which gives quicker access to glucose
