Density
The density of a substance is defined as its mass per unit volume
Density = mass/volume
Density, p =Kilogram per cubic metre,kg/m3
Mass, m = Kilograms,kg
Volume, V= metres3, m3
Measuring the density of a solid object
Measure the mass of the object using a electronic balance, make sure the balance is zero'd
If its a cube or cuboid, meaure its dimensions using milimetre ruler to find volume then use the equation to find density
For a small irregular solid, lower it on a thread into measuring cylinder filled with water, and work out volume of the object by rise in water level
Measuring the density of a liquid
Measure empty beaker, fill it with water and measure again then subtract the weights to get mass of liquid
Then use the equation density = mass/volume
Change of state
They are physical changes happening through heating or cooling the substance
Gas to liquid = condensation
Solid to Gas = sublimation
Solid to liquid = melting
liquid to solid = Solidifying or freezing
liquid to gas = vaporisation or boiling
Conservation of mass
