        if you don't have lots of raw materials like oil, coal or metal ores, you won't be able to make as much money
        
        this means you can't spend it on development
        
        some countries do have lots of natural resources but they aren't development enough to exploit them and are therefore stuck in a poverty cycle
    - - poor trading links
        
        world trade patterns seriously influence a countries economy and therefore their development
        
        if a country has poor trading links it won't be able to make a lot of money
        
        this means it can't spend money on development
      - debt
        
        very poor countries borrow money from other countries and international organisations
        
        this money has to be paid bakc often with interest
        
        this means they can't spend money on dvelopment
      - economy based on primary products
        
        countries that mostly export primary products tend to be less developed
        
        this is because you don't make as much profit from primary rescources
        
        these prices also fluctuate more and sometimes the price falls below the cost of production
        
        countries that export manufactured goods make more profit and wealthy countries can force down the prices of raw materials
    - - drinking water
        
        a less developed country that has less clean water will be more susceptible to disease
        
        this means people can't work and contribute to the economy
      - the place of women in society
        
        a more developed country has more equal right for men and women
        
        this means they are more educated and will work
        
        this means you have twice as many people contributing to the economy
      - child education
        
        the more children go to school the more developed the country will be
        
        a better education => better jobs => ^ QOL and increased development

      - low income families children often have lower expectations-poverty cycle
    - - crime levels

      - lots of barriers in UK to immigration

      - 45% of children from migrants are in poverty
