Chapter V - BUILDS A HOUSE
(September 30, 1659) Robinson Crusoe is shipwrecked on a deserted island after a terrible storm
He calls it the "Island of Despair"
because all his crew members drown (annegare), and he is left alone without food, shelter, or weapons
He spends the first night sleeping in a tree, afraid of wild animals
(October 1) The next day, he sees that the ship is still near the shore (riva)
He hopes to recover useful things from it
It continues to rain, but he manages to swim to the ship and collect supplies
From October 1st to 24th. Crusoe makes many trips to the ship, bringing supplies to the island using rafts
He realized it is rainy season
On October 20th, his raft overturns, but he recovers most of his things because they were in shallow water
On October 25th, a storm destroys the ship completely
Crusoe spends the day protecting the supplies he has collected so that the rain won't ruin them
On October 26, Robinson Crusoe spends the day looking for a safe place to live
At night, he finds a good spot under a rock and starts building a shelter, using wood and stones to make it strong
From October 26 to 30, he works hard to move all his supplies to the new shelter, even though it rains a lot
On October 31, he explores the island with his gun to find food
He kills a goat, and its baby follows him home, but he later kills it because it wouldn't survive alone
On November 1, he sets up a tent under a rock and secures it by putting up stakes to hang his hammock
On November 2, he builds a fence around his shelter using wood from the shipwreck
