HOW THE MEDIA CAN INCREASE TRUST
USE OF LANGUAGE
Language and dehumanizing the “enemy” who ever that may be
Use of emotional language, use of hyperbole, and political leaning
If they sensationalize
How much time they spend blaming someone.
Personal attacks rather than focusing on data and facts
The “dramatic” factor. If the news source is purposefully argumentative, or including unnecessary drama instead of just discussing facts or having healthy debate, it weakens my trust in the news source
How balanced/unbalanced they are in their reporting & how sensationalized their headlines are
BALANCED CRITIQUE
It only targeting one party
Balance against things you can find on conservative and liberal stations that match
If they seem to consider the point of view from both sides
If sites like whole heartedly love a president or a candidate - immediate distrust. If sites are a bit more neutral I tend to trust a bit more.
I Google the news outlet to see how far it leans left or right and try to gain most of my facts from those that are in the middle
Prefer 2 opposing sides (democrat/republican) watch them address the issue and then coming to a solution on a centrist point of view.
FOCUS ON THE FACTS
Factual evidence
Trust: when they focus on facts without inserting their bias
Time/space given to explaining sources.
Type of media, who is reporting, sources
