8.1 Plan Quality Management: - Coggle Diagram
8.1 Plan Quality Management:
How?
Determine project quality objectives aligned with stakeholder expectations
Determine quality standards to be applied
Conduct cost-benefit analysis for meeting quality standards
Plan project management and control activities within planned costs and stated benefits
Allocate responsibilities, authority, and resources for quality management
Determine project requirements, deliverables, and acceptance criteria
Establish quality metrics and how to measure quality
Cost of Quality (COQ):
Cost of Conformance:
Prevention Costs (build a quality product):
• Training
• Document processes
• Equipment
• Time to do it right
Appraisal Costs (assess the quality):
• Testing
• Destructive testing loss
• Inspection
Money spent during the project to avoid failures
Cost of Non-conformance:
Internal Failure Costs (failures found by the project):
• Rework
• Scrap
External Failure Costs (failures found by the customer):
• Liabilities
• Warranty work
• Lost business
Money spent during and after the project because of failures
Analysis:
Cost-Benefit Analysis:
Compares how much quality activities will cost versus how much value they bring
Marginal Analysis:
Identifies the point where the benefits of improved quality equal the cost to achieve it
Test and Inspection Planning:
Project manager and team determine how to test or inspect deliverables to meet stakeholder needs and product performance goals
Methods vary by industry:
• Alpha and beta tests (software)
• Strength tests (construction)
• Inspection (manufacturing)
• Field and nondestructive tests (engineering)
Techniques:
Benchmarking:
Compares actual or planned practices to other projects to generate improvement ideas and performance measures
Expert Judgment:
Involves individuals or groups with specialized knowledge or training in quality management
Output of Process:
Quality Management Plan:
Describes how the team will implement the organization’s quality policy
Subsidiary plan of the project management plan
Addresses quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and overall quality management
Should be reviewed early in the project
Quality Metrics:
Defines how quality will be measured
Can include any applicable measurement:
• Defect rates
• Bug rates
• Failure rates
