Modal Auxiliary Verbs (Future)
The word will is a modal auxiliary verb and future tenses are sometimes called "modal tenses". The examples are included here for convenience and comparison.
Will, Would, Could
Will you open the door for me? Would you kindly open the door? Could you open the door?
Modal Auxiliary Verbs (Present)
The basic structure is:
positive: subject + auxiliary verb + main verb
negative: subject + auxiliary verb + not + main verb
? question: auxiliary verb + subject + main verb
Most common Aux. verbs
I do works, I do not work, Do I work?
I have worked, I have not worked, Have I worked?
I am working, I am not working, Am I working?
I have been working, I have not been working, Have I been working?
Can, Could: Requests, May
Modal Auxiliary Verbs (Past)
Could (talk about past possibility or ability) and (make requests).
I could swim when I was 5 years old.
Preposition of time (At, in, on)
are
• at for a precise time.
• in for month, years, centuries and long periods.
• on for days and dates.
