the lyrics and music drive the narrative in the sections
dancers
in the version we watched there are 9 dancers however this changed in different productions of the piece
there is a use of character and each dancer plays a part in each section
three female dancers are used to represent the struggles of the drug dealer
movement components
there is a blend of Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Gesture
they use pedestrian movement to represent city blocks and to establish character
motif of a contraction and sinking to the ground so show that they are sad
chasse hop which is a motif that is repeated in every section of the piece
crossing triplets which shows the MT Jazz influence
they use lifts and contact work throughout each section to show relationships and themes for example in the pas de deux it shows their relationship
in 'Aint no sunshine' the dancer performs lots of turns to show that he is disorientated. there are other things happening like the bar closes showing that he is all alone.

they each have individual costumes to represent their character for example the drug dealer has ripped old clothes and there are used syringes on the floor.

Physical Setting
the costumes are determined by gender. the men wear white, black and grey long modest dresses. the men wear black trousers and a loose fitting black top/shirt.
there is no set apart from a cyclorama at the back. it is all one colour and varies between light blue, dark blue and grey
it has very dim lighting to once again represent the sad and dark mood as the piece is about death
