MECHANISMS
1.Mechanisms
Around us we can see many moving objects and mechanisms that produce movement that we also called
motion.
Transforming motion
rotary to linear
rotary to reciprocating
Joining elements
Transmitting motion
linear
rotary
Controlling and regulating motion
Storing energy
2.Linear motion mechanisms
Mechanisms that transmit motion and force in a straight line from one point to another.
Fixed pulley
F=R
Movable pulley
F=R/2
Levers
A lever is a rigid bar that is supported by a fulcrum.
Law of lever: F·d=R·r
Compound pulley
A mix of fix and movable pulleys
3.Rotary motion mechanism
Worm gear
A screw that moves a helical cogwheell.
Gear mechanism with a chain
Are two cogwheels with parallel axces that are a certain distance appart.
Gear mechanisms and cogwheels
Are sets of wheels that are teeth called cogs.
Gear train
Is a system of more than two gears connected together.
Pulleys with belt
The consist of two pulleys or wheels that are a certain distance apart.
Friction drives
Are made up of two are more wheels that are in contact.
Pulley trains with belt
It's a system of pulleys, or wheels with a belt formed by more than two wheels.
Multiplying system
Constant system
Reducing system
4.Mechanism that transforms motion
From rotary into linear
Rack and pinion system
This uses a pinion that is a small cogwheel, mounted on a bar that is a toothed belt or bar.
Nut and bolt system
This consist of a bolt or threaded bar and a nut that has the same interior diameter as the diameter of the bolt.
Winch and crank handle
A winch and crank handle system consists of a drum that rotates and a crank handle that allows to pull or lift objects.
From rotary into reciprocating motion
Eccentric cam
Consist of a wheel with an off-centre rotation axle that doesn't coincide with the centre of its circumference.
Crankshaft
This is a set of connecting rods attached to a jointed axle.
Crank-link-slider
This is composed of a crank and a rod called a connecting rod or link.
Cam
A rotating object that pushes a follower as it moves.
5.Other mechanisms
Mechanisms that stores energy
Connecting mechanisms
Mechanisms for controlling and directing motion
Supports: bushing and bearings
