Select one piece of architecture and explain its relationship to climate change
Selected architecture
Mekorot water Pump In the village of Bardala. A few hundred meters north the Village
Theoretical framework
Wet Ontology
A philosophical concept that views the ocean not simply as "wet" or liquid but as a complex dynamic entity encompassing various states like ice, vapor and the diverse life within it. et Ontology ill be applied to temporality and the materiality of the building
The Temporality
= is the way time is embedded in a building throughout its design, construction and use. it also refers to the role of architecture in challenging the linear perception of time.
Space and Time- giving time a human measure
Spatial phenomena- atmosphere and other spatial phenomena are intertwined with temporality
sacred space= Temporal and ephemeral encounters are important in the design of sacred spaces
Hydro Hegemony =
A framework that explains how powerful states control water resources in river basins. the theory is used to analyse trans-boundary (crossing the border between two or more areas) water conflicts
How does it work
= A powerful state or entity (Israel) controls water resources, at the expense of others (Palestine)
Strategy= resource, integration and containment
Tactics= Coercion, pressure, treaties, and knowledge construction.
To explain how Israel was able to control the water resources through military coercion and pressure
Hydro Imperialism= A form of imperialism that involves the control of water resources for political and economic gain.
Consequences= Ecological change and decreased access to food/water.
Impact on farming.
Exploiting the River Jordan= denying access to surface water. The farmers of Bardala are forced to depend on Mekorot for their water supplies which are sold at an extortionate price
The pump provides the Village of Bardala
Materiality
Hydro feminism
=An awareness and assertion of the fluid nature of being in and of the biological world
motion

contextual background
Key date is 1967
History of water in the West bank
Apartheid state
over 14 million people live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, half of them Jews and half Palestinians within the sovereign borders of Israel a permanent democratic regime governing about 9 million Israel citizens. Within the territories Israel occupied in 1967- a Temporary Military regime ruling over 5 million Palestinians.
Is this really the case?
The temporary Military regime has persisted for more than 50 years; that hundres of thousands of Jewish settlers live in more than 280 permanent settlements in the West Bank.Israel has annexed East Jerusalem and de facto annexed the rest of West Bank.
One key fact that is ignored it the fact that the entire area is organised under one principle: Advancing and perpetuating the supremacy of One group-Jews-over another- Palestinians.

My Own interpretations/ analysis
What is it
This building to us seems like an other typical industrial architecture.
A Harmless looking white box with metal pipes growing out of it, and two tall trees with helps with identifying the structure on google maps. There is nothing special about the appearance of the structure architectural and looks innocent to the outsiders of the Village of Bardala.
However, what surrounds the structure should be brought to the readers attention. This unsuspecting water pump is surrounded by metal fencing and electronic surveillance, but rather protecting people who enter close proximity to the water infrastructure, the metal fence is there to protect the structure from "security threats". The inhabitants of Bardala.
While not a visually stimulating piece of architecture it definitely asserts its presence through the loud penetrating sound it emits.
What does it do?
The pump extracts water from wells/groundwater
This water is then supplying the settler village of Mehola
Agricultural use of water
Domestic use of water
unlimited supply of water
Mekorot takes on a "victim" mentality when discussing there infrastructures.
"threat" is constantly used
"Security threats"
"battling climate crisis"
There is no direct access to the water for the Palestinians in Bardala
Drilling wells is illegal
Impossible to get a permit from the Israeli Military
Limited water access for the villagers they need to buy the water from Mekorot
