Irregular Verbs - Simple Past Tense
Past Tense is used in Regular and Irregular Verbs but only for Affirmative Sentences,
for example: he went
Irregular Verbs
To begin → Began (Empezar)
To bring → Brought (Traer)
To come → Came (Venir)
To cost → Cost (Costar)
To do → Did (Hacer)
To drink → Drank (Beber)🍵
Negative and questions
The verb form does not change for any person as the Present Simple Tense in Past Tense.
examples:
She went to the mall yesterday and bought a new dress.They drank coffee and spoke about their trip last night.
Regular Verbs – Simple Past Tense
Most verbs in English are regulars that form the Past Tense adding the suffix –ed to the Present: he worked. However, this ending is only added to affirmative sentences.
Regular verbs
To answer → Answered (Responder)
To arrive → Arrived (Llegar)
To ask → Asked (Preguntar)❓
To call → Called (Llamar)📞
To close → Closed (Cerrar)
To end → Ended (Terminar)
To enjoy → Enjoyed (Disfrutar)
To follow → Followed (Seguir)
If the verb ends in a consonant + "y": change "y" to "i" and add "-ed" → study → studied, try → tried
Negative and questions
are
"Did" is used to form questions in the past tense: Did she buy a jacket?
In negative sentences, "did" is combined with "not": She did not buy a jacket.
"Did" is used in all persons without modifying the main verb.
