ACUTE TUBULAR NECROSIS - Coggle Diagram
ACUTE TUBULAR NECROSIS
Definition
kidney disorder characterized by the death of tubular epithelial cells, leading to acute kidney injury
Clinical presentation
-
-
changes in urine (color, volume)
-
Pathogenesis
Tubular Damage
Reversible Phase: Loss of cell polarity, abnormal ion transport, and Na+ misdirection activate tubuloglomerular feedback, reducing GFR.
Irreversible Phase: Cell detachment leads to tubule obstruction, intratubular pressure increase, and tubular back leak, further reducing tubular flow.
Final Outcome
Reduced GFR and oliguria due to vasoconstriction, tubular obstruction, and interstitial edema, causing acute kidney injury.

Investigations
-
-
blood tests (serum creatinine, BUN, electrolytes, CBC)
-
Treatment
treat underlying cause (eg. ischemia, toxin)
supportive management (eg. fluids, electrolytes)
-
-
Examination findings
-
-
-
-
edema (peripheral, pulmonary)
