1 TSARIST RUSSIA

The Russian Empire had around 150 million inhabitants.
The population was very unevenly distributed of a great diversity of nationalities, peoples and cultures.

Russia was an autocratic monarchy
In which the tsar exercised his power (by divine right) as an absolute ruler
At the end of the 19th century
The Russian Social-Democratic Worker's Party was created
This party split into 2 groups
Mensheviks
Were moderate with a reformist liberalism
Their lider was Martov
Bolsheviks
Defended the seizure of power by a committed working-class minority
Their lider was Lenin
Grigori Rasputin
Was a mystic called to the palace to cure the tsar’s eldest son, Alexei
He was accused of manipulating the appointment of government positions and of being a German spy
He was assassinated in 1916
