WRITING 1.
Unit 4. A Letter
A coherent sentence is one in which all the parts fit together and are grammatically and structurally balanced. To achieve this, you should learn to recognize and avoid the common structural errors that make sentences ineffective.
Prevent the needless use of passive voice. Use the passive voice only when the executor of the action is unknown, the executor of the action is irrelevant, or the executor of the action is less important than the action itself.
b. Prevent misplaced modifiers. Keep words in the proper grammatically order. Phrases or clauses that modify nouns immediately follow the nouns they modify. Usually, adverbs directly precede the word or phrase they modify (except the verb “to be”). In many cases, moving the adverb completely changes the meaning of the sentence.

A paragraph is a unit of text that develops one idea or topic in specific detail. A paragraph has beginning, middle and end. The beginning, or the topic sentence, forecasts what the paragraph is going to be about. The middle develops the idea in detail by giving specific support for it, and the conclusion emphasizes the insight you have arrived at.
