- - - - Did not punish Italy soon enough. The League had banned arms sales to Italy, banned loans to Italy, and banned imports to Italy, however this took 2 months to decide on, which allowed Mussolini to build up his stockpile of raw materials, making it ineffective. Not only that, Britain and France did not close the Suez Canal, still allowing Italy ships to pass through.
    - - Did not restrict Japan off of their armed forces. The League (France and Britain) had discussed economic sanctions, however it was powerless without the USA, which was Japan's main trading partner, it was useless. This meant that even though sanctions were released on Japan, the USA would continue to supply and trade with Japan as they were not apart of the League.
- - - - Britain and France did not want to stand up against Japan Japan was a permanent member of the League, It had equal power to Britain and France to veto any actions The League did not have key countries as members, the USA would have the military strength to stand up against Japan In addition, the US was Japan’s key trading partner, The USSR also did not want Japan to invade closer to its territory and would use force to stop this
    - - The league did not have its own military forces and relied on member states to provide millitary and to enforce sanctions this lack of a military force made the military severely limited its ability to act divinely when agression occurs
