Language
a symbolic, rule controlled grammatical system used to communicate
in order to understand linguistic messages, children master 3 skills:
- relate speech sounds with their respective meanings
- associate words with things and ideas

- that which is expressed verbally
non-verbal language:
- understood by not actively used
- vocab is much more advanced. - gestures become function
- like words.

- communicative value of language is essential to existence
