6.4 Acid deposition - Coggle Diagram
6.4 Acid deposition
-
Direct, indirect toxic, and indirect nutrient effects on ecosystems
Direct effect: acid rain lowers pH in water bodies, harming aquatic life
Indirect effect: increased solubility of toxic metals (aluminum), which poisons plants and animals
Indirect nutrient effect: Leaching of essential nutrients (calcium, magnesium) from soil, reducing plant growth

wet deposition
acidic rain, snow, or fog that removes acids from the atmosphere and deposits them on the Earth's surface
dry deposition
acidic gases and particles that settle on surfaces (buildings, soil, water bodies) without precipitation
